The Pan African Network (PAN) is one of four networks within the Standing Committee on Multicultural Affairs (CMA) of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). CMA serves as a liaison to ACPA’s leadership, focusing attention on issues in education and trends, which affect students and professionals of color in the College Student Personnel field.
Commissioned to create this logo by a member of this committee, I created this logo fully in Adobe Illustrator as a vector. With more and more experience I find that pursuing the research needed to create a logo take up a majority of the time – this logo was no exception. I had originally tinkered with the idea of an open book to show research, and a graduation cap to show scholarship. However, I couldn’t find a way to make the cap look authentic to the logo. I then redesigned the concept to reflect scholarship with a diploma.
I particularly enjoyed making this logo because I had absolute creative control with the color scheme and the representation of the logo. I enjoy logos that are an amalgamation of two different things, but had not yet had the chance to create something quite like this.
